After her family is killed by corrupt warlord Aric Athair and his bloodthirsty army of Bullets, Caledonia Styx is left to chart her own course on the dangerous and deadly seas. She captains her ship, the Mors Navis, with a crew of girls and women just like her, whose lives have been turned upside down by Aric and his men. The crew has one misson: stay alive, and take down Aric’s armed and armored fleet.

But when Caledonia’s best friend and second-in-command just barely survives an attack thanks to help from a Bullet looking to defect, Caledonia finds herself questioning whether or not to let him join their crew. Is this boy the key to taking down Aric Athair once and for all…or will he threaten everything the women of the Mors Navis have worked for?

I was so excited to get to read the sneak peak of Seafire and then… I wasn’t. I thought for sure that a story about a group of girls running a ship and trying to stomp out the bad guys was going to be a super interesting book. But the sneak peak really wasn’t all that interesting. Sure, there was a fair bit of action in the sneak peak I read, but it didn’t make me excited to continue reading.

Honestly, the only reason the sneak peak gave me to continue reading is the possibility of finding out the ending of the cliffhanger the sneak peak left on, but even then, I’m not particularly inclined to say I need to rush out and get the full book so I can read it.

I gave this one 3 stars because it’s not horrible, but it’s not great either. It’s just kind of meh. Maybe it just isn’t the book for me or maybe it’s not the book for me right now.

I received a copy of this book free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. All opinions expressed are 100% my own.
